DEPRESSION

Depression is now Australia’s most debilitating illness, with more than one million Australians experiencing an episode every year.

Depression is an illness, not a weakness.

Symptoms include:

  • Feeling sad or low in mood
  • Reduced interest in daily activities: loss of pleasure in things
  • A significant change in appetite or weight (up or down)
  • Trouble sleeping, or sleeping too much
  • Feelings of constant fatigue and low energy
  • Being disturbed by feelings of worthlessness or guilt
  • Trouble concentrating or making decisions
  • Thinking a lot about death or thoughts about suicide
  • Becoming irritable easily
  • Loss of confidence and self-esteem
  • Reduced interest in sexual activity
  • A loss of sense of humour
  • Absolutely anybody can develop Depression and Women experience Depression about twice as commonly as men.

    Proven treatments include Antidepressant medications, lifestyle changes, and talking treatments (Psychological approach).

    The goal of treatment is to completely get rid of the Depression. However, like many psychological conditions there is always the possibility that it will reoccur at some point in the future.

    Hypnotherapy teaches the person the skills required to manage Depression, and so return to full functionality.
