OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER

This is an Anxiety Disorder which consists of two parts:

Obsessions – which are unwanted thoughts or ideas; and

Compulsions – which are repetitive actions

The condition causes the person enormous stress and anxiety and it can interfere with the person’s ability to function at work and at home. A person may experience the obsessions (thoughts) without the associated compulsions.

The most common obsessions relate to themes of contamination, violence, guilt, and doubt The sufferer knows that these thoughts have little or no foundation in reality, but the ideas recur constantly despite the person’s attempts to ignore or suppress them. The most common compulsions include cleaning and checking behaviours

The compulsive behaviours are an attempt to reduce the person’s anxiety level

Anxiety or Depression often accompanies Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Hypnotherapy teaches the person techniques to reduce or get rid of the obsessions and compulsions, and so enables the client to take back control of their life.
